Launch of 10 by 10 Project

Date posted: 25/09/2008

Artswork, Bath Spa University’s Centre for Excellence in teaching and learning in the creative industries, is launching 10by10, a project which aims to explore the relationship between creative practice and teaching through teacher-practitioners – individuals who both teach [at FE/HE level] and work in creative practice ‘originating ideas of ‘expressive value’ which they commercialise’*.

The project has been established in the belief that the teacher-practitioner role within arts education remains poorly articulated, that there may be a lack of support for teachers who are also working creative professionals, and a lack of recognition of the mutual benefit of teacher-practitioners to both creative industry and arts education.

 10by10 aims to establish:

  • how teacher-practitioners experience and view the relationship between their professional creative practice and teaching
  •  an understanding of how practices and teaching mutually benefit from the teacher-practitioner role and the processes and barriers within this relationship
  •  recommendations to support teacher-practitioners’ professional development and educational practice, as distinct from teachers

Call for Workshop Facilitators

Are you a facilitator with experience of working with the relationship between teaching and professional creative practice? Are you interested in supporting the aims of the 10by10 project? We would be pleased to hear from you. There is a payment of £300 plus travel expenses for facilitators.

Please download the application form at for further information. Deadline for application is Monday October 20th.
10 facilitators will deliver 10 workshops at 10 institutions, and engage over 200 teacher-practitioners. The workshops will both produce research materials and trial techniques to support the relationship between practice and teaching. The first workshop for teacher-practitioners will be run at Spike Island, Bristol on December 15th 2008, with further workshops planned at Oxford Brookes and the University of the Arts early next year. Further details will be made available nearer the time.
Please also contact if you may be interested in hosting a workshop, as part of the series, at your institution.
