CLTAD: CPD Framework in Academic Practice in Art, Design and Communication

Call for applications: 10 credit units in learning & teaching: Autumn 2011
The Centre for Learning & Teaching in Art & Design (cltad) offers a range of 10 and 20 credit units that can be undertaken as stand-alone CPD units, or contribute towards a professional qualification. The following 10-credit units will be offered in the coming months. Please note that these are Level 6 courses and cannot contribute towards a Postgraduate Certificate. They are an ideal option for those who are just starting out on their teaching careers, or are considering postgraduate study for the first time.

This unit is aimed at those who would like to gain an overview of approaches to learning and teaching in post-compulsory education. It is suitable for those who are beginning to do some teaching as part of their job and other professionals interested in understanding methods and approaches used in Further and Higher Education today.  The unit introduces theoretical principles underpinning approaches to learning and teaching in art and design in Further and Higher Education in the UK. It provides opportunities for you to explore questions and problems arising in your own experience and consider practical responses to these.
Following a two day interactive workshop examining the central topics in post compulsory education, you are asked to carry out a small-scale reflective investigation on one of these topics and share your findings with the group.

Monday 27 & Tuesday 28 February 2012 (submission by Friday 25 May 2012)
This practical introductory unit is aimed at those who have little experience of formal academic study at postgraduate level. In undertaking the unit, you will be guided through the stages of creating a structured piece of formal academic writing, from library research, reading academic literature, planning, drafting and revising a piece of writing. You will thus be able to identify and build upon your academic literacy skills and develop strategies for improvement.
