Art Design Media Subject Centre (ADM-HEA)

ADM-HEA made funding available for learning and teaching projects related to its aims and objectives throughout the year. Other small amounts of funding were available for case studies and resource reviews.

Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)

The AHRC was established on 1 April 2005, and replaced the Arts and Humanities Research Board. It supports research within a huge subject domain from traditional humanities subjects, such as history, modern languages and English literature, to the creative and performing arts.

The AHRC funds research and postgraduate study within the UK's higher education institutions. In addition, on behalf of the Higher Education Funding Council for England, it provides funding for museums, galleries and collections that are based in, or attached to, higher education institutions in England.


Arts Council England

Arts Council England is the national development agency for the arts in England, distributing public money from Government and the National Lottery.


Arts Council of Northern Ireland

The Arts Council is the lead development agency for the arts in Northern Ireland. They are the main support for artists and arts organisations, offering a broad range of funding opportunities through their Exchequer and National Lottery funds.

Arts Council of Wales

The Arts Council of Wales (ACW) is responsible for funding and developing the arts in Wales.


British Academy Research Centres Funding

The British Academy offers grants in the humanities and social sciences. Most awards are made to staff employed in universities and other institutions of higher education, but applicants are not restricted by either academic or employment status. Rather, they must show that they are seeking support for advanced research at postdoctoral level (or equivalent).

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)

The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) is the UK’s leading research funding and training agency addressing economic and social concerns.

Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC)

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council is the UK Government’s leading funding agency for research and training in engineering and the physical sciences.


Esmée Fairbairn Foundation

Esmée Fairbairn Foundation is one of the largest independent grantmaking foundations in the UK. The foundation expects to make grants totalling £29 million across the UK during 2007 for charitable purposes in four programme areas: Arts & Heritage, Education, Environment and Social Change: Enterprise and Independence.



The Fullbright Commission

The Fullbright Commission offers awards to UK citizens or EU citizens resident in the UK to study, lecture or pursue research in the United States.

Joseph Rowntree Foundation

One of the largest social policy research and development charities in the UK, spending about £10 million a year on a research and development programme "that seeks to better understand the causes of social difficulties and explore ways of overcoming them."

The Trust makes awards for the support of research and education.

The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA)

NESTA is the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts.They are the largest single endowment devoted exclusively to supporting talent, innovation and creativity in the UK.

Scottish Arts Council

The Scottish Arts Council is the lead body for the funding, development and advocacy of the arts in Scotland


The Scottish Funding Council (SFC)

The Scottish Funding Council distributes about £1.5 billion in funding each year for teaching and learning, research and other activities in Scotland's colleges and universities.

The Council for International Education (UKCOSA)

The Council for International Education provides advice and information to international students studying in the UK and to staff who work with them.

The UK Research Office (UKRO)

The UK Research Office (UKRO) is the UK's leading information and advice service on European Union funding for research and higher education. UKRO is jointly funded by the all eight UK Research Councils and receives subscriptions from over 150 research organisations, principally in the UK.
