Male access and success in higher education

Higher Education Academy, York
6 July 2010 09:45-15:45

This seminar will consider gendered differentials in access and success focusing on male access to, and successful progression through, higher education.
It will provide the opportunity for participants not only to hear about some of the latest research on male participation, retention and attainment, but also to critically examine the key challenges for the sector in addressing this agenda through the lens of their experience of their own institution’s response to gender differentials at all stages in the student experience.
It will be of interest to a wide range of staff in HE Institutions to include: academic and non-academic support staff; those involved with widening participation, admissions, retention and progression to employment; equality officers; staff and educational developers; researchers; and senior managers. Also to those working for sector support agencies and partnerships, including Aimhigher Partnerships.
The following speakers will be presenting at the research seminar:

  • Bahram Bekhradnia, Higher Education Policy Institute
  • Dr Ruth Woodfield, University of Sussex
  • Dr Neil Raven, Manager, Aimhigher in the East Midlands
  • Ed Foster, Nottingham Trent University/HERE Project
  • Professor Liz Thomas, The Higher Education Academy
