From Coke bottles to mole traps: designing undergraduate collections based on research

V&A, London - Seminar Rm 3
21 November 2007 15:30-17:00

Seminar given by Rhianedd Smith, Undergraduate Learning Officer at the Museum of English Rural Life at the University of Reading.  Her post is funded by the CETL for Applied Undergraduate Research Skills and is aimed at developing undergraduate research with the University's collections.  Rhianedd has previously worked as a Museum Learning Officer and applies museum learning theory and practice to designing collections-based teaching for undergraduates.

In this talk she will suggest that student use of collections is not simply a question of 'adding objects' to Higher Education.  Through reference to the project at MERL, Rhianedd will show how the integration of museum learning theory with the pedagogy of student-centred learning can create a unique educational contect for undergraduate research.
